Former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott did not seem to get along well with his team’s young players last season. Young star point guard D’Angelo Russell said recently that “there was no guidance from the people that were supposed to guide [him],” which definitely feels like a shot at Scott. In an interview with TMZ, Scott said that he does not have a relationship with Russell:
When asked if Russell’s recent comments bothered him, Scott told TMZ: “It doesn’t bother me at all. My track record with guards speaks for itself. So I don’t pay it really no attention.”
“I don’t have a relationship with D’Angelo,” when questioned. “It is what it is.” When asked if he wanted a relationship with Russell going forward, Scott replied: “Not necessarily.”
When asked if he was looking to return to the NBA in a coaching role, he responded: “No time soon.”
Scott received a large amount of criticism last season for his refusal to play the team’s young talent, including Russell. Given the comments made by both Russell and Scott, it is not whatsoever surprising that the two have no relationship.
