Byron Allen Media Group has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against McDonald’s Corporation for allegedly discriminating against Black-owned media outlets. The lawsuit accuses the fast-food giant of stereotyping Black businesses and refusing to work with Black media brands such as AMG Entertainment and Weather Group.
“Together with our Owner/Operators, we have doubled down on our relationships with diverse-owned partners. This includes increasing our spend with diverse-owned media from 4% to 10% and with Black-owned media from 2% to 5% of total national advertising over the next four years,” McDonald’s stated after the lawsuit was filed.
“Once we receive the complaint, we will review and respond accordingly.”
This is not the first time Allen has called out a major corporation for discriminating against Black businesses. Earlier this year, Allen and other Black entrepreneurs called out GM for its treatment of Black businesses. Elsewhere, Allen and others worked with ad giants GroupM and Interpublic to boost their relationship with Black businesses. Allen is hoping to have the same level of success with his latest lawsuit against McDonald’s.
