This is a major dent in Chicago’s chances of getting Carmelo Anthony.
16 Million?! That’s it?! According to Dan Feldman of ProBasketballTalk that’s all they can offer considering the circumstances.
They can amnesty Carlos Boozer, waive a few no-value players and trade a few role players without returning salary. Doing that, I project they could make Melo an offer that starts at $16,284,762 and is worth $69,535,934 over four years.
The could also do a sign-and-trade involving Carlos Boozer that would get Melo a max deal – $22,458,402 starting and $95,897,375 over four years. But Phil Jackson might not participate in that.
This is a problem for the Bulls. Arguably, they have the best roster compared to the other teams going for Melo but the fact that they’re financially screwed doesn’t really help.
The Knicks have some considerable power when it comes to money, don’t rule out Melo going back to NY just yet.
