The Chicago Bulls seemingly cannot catch a break. Just as star guard Jimmy Butler was set to come back from injury, the team received bad news on the same front, in regards to center Pau Gasol.
According to head coach Fred Hoiberg, Gasol received an MRI that showed no structural damage but did show significant swelling in his knee. He will not travel with the team for their next two games.
The Bulls cannot afford more injuries. The team is currently sitting outside of the playoff picture, sitting one game behind the 8th seed Pistons. Having Butler back will certainly help, but Gasol has been phenomenal recently, playing as the offensive hub of the team.
Fortunately, the Bulls do have some depth in their frontcourt and the combination of Taj Gibson, Nikola Mirotic, and rookie Bobby Portis should be able to replicate at least some of the production from Pau Gasol. Chicago needs all the help it can get as they only have a month to make up lost ground in the playoff race.
