Fred Hoiberg is the NBA’s newest rookie coaching face since replacing Tom Thibodeau as head coach of the Chicago Bulls. Now on the sidelines at NBA Summer League, Hoiberg spoke with SI’s Matt Dollinger about his transition thus far.
The former Iowa State head coach talks about the personal aspect of the transition and relocating his family, as well as the professional transition. Hoiberg had a 10-year career in the NBA as a player and said that he’s initially trying to draw from that experience as he segues into this new position. Hoiberg also talks about Steve Kerr, who just won a championship with the Golden State Warriors as a rookie head coach, and a couple of his players on the Summer League roster who are expected to be on the Bulls roster next season.
So far there haven’t been any shifting tweaks to the Bulls roster, which Hoiberg is apparently fond of, which makes his task of trying to improve this team even more interesting. As Hoiberg transitions, so too will his players, and we’ll see how much better they are under a new system and new leadership.
