After playing 42 minutes on two 10-day contracts, the Milwaukee Bucks have decided to sign veteran forward Kenyon Martin for the rest of the season according to ESPN.com’s Marc Stein.
Martin is averaging about five minutes in eight games played this season. He has averaged 1.3 point per game while shooting 33.3% from the field.
“He’s a very smart basketball player,” Kidd said earlier this month. “It won’t take long for him to understand what we’re trying to do. For us, it’s a process of learning a lot of different things, and one of the best ways is learning from your teammates. He’s been in a lot of battles. He’s been on pretty good teams throughout his career, and he understands what it takes.”
Kidd and Martin have played together twice, as both were members of the New Jersey Nets teams that played in back-to-back NBA finals in the early 2000’s, as well as teammates on the 2012-2013 New York Knicks.
Martin, the former first overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft by the Nets out of Cincinnati, has averaged 12.5 points and 6.9 rebounds ?in 14 pro seasons.
The Bucks have also signed point guard Jorge Gutierrez to a 10-day contract to bolster their back court to replace Kendal Marshall, who needs season ending knee surgery. Gutierrez is in his second season out of California, the same school that produced Bucks coach Jason Kidd, and played for Kidd last year as a member of the Nets.
Gutierrez was waived after being traded to Philadelphia in the Andrei Kirilenko trade, after starting the season with the Nets.
