Earlier this week, K-Pop super group, BTS, donated $1 million to the Black Lives Matter movement. The group then turned around and challenged its fan base to do the same. In just under a few days, the group’s hashtag, #MatchAMillion, has encouraged fans to raise $1.3 million. The million dollar fan donation will be split up among a dozen groups including Color of Change, NAACP, The Marshall Project and Black Lives Matter.
“We’ve run big projects before, but the amount of support for this project is overwhelming,” BTS fan group, One in an ARMY, spokeswoman Erika Overton said.
I knew it would happen. I just didn't expect it to be this quick. After it was announced yesterday that @BTS_twt donated $1 million USD to #BlackLivesMatter, ARMY (their worldwide fandom) came up with its own #MatchAMillion challenge & raised $500k USD in less than a day.

“We encourage ARMY to continue educating themselves on the history of anti-black racism in the United States as well as anti-black racism that occurs in your own country,” she added.
BTS is just the latest in a long line of high-profile musicians who have donated to social justice causes this month. Drake, The Weeknd, Kanye West and a number of other stars have donated to different social justice organizations this month.
