Coming into tonight’s heavyweight title fight, Bruno Cappelozza of Brazil had earned all 13 of his professional victories by way of knockout. However, things didn’t end so emphatically for the star heavyweight on Wednesday evening. Facing off against his toughest opponent this season, Ante Delija, Cappelozza had to put together a complete performance.
Instead of using his hands to control the fight like he did against Jamelle Jones in August, Cappelozza had to use his wrestling abilities to get the job done. With what appeared to be tie fight heading into round five, he landed a major takedown that appeared to seal the deal. Not to mention, he appeared to open up a cut on Delija’s forehead.
Eighteen fights into his professional career, Cappelozza appears to have hit his stride. Not only did he win the $1 million prize tonight, he’s won five of his last six fights. If he decides to return to the PFL next season to defend his crown, a target will be on his back, but it’s starting to look like he’s prepared for whatever is thrown at him.
