Cleveland Browns fans just can’t catch a break. While their offense might be influx with the current state of their wide receivers being up in the air and no clear definition of who the starting quarterback would be going into week 1 and now there might be a question on the defense to start the season.
While the Browns defense has been solid over the last few seasons, there has been one cause for concern. Linebacker Barkevious Mingo has gone through some injury issues in his short career and now Mingo will be going under the knife once again.
Following from Pat McManamon of ESPN.
Cleveland Browns linebacker Barkevious Mingo will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Thursday to repair torn cartilage.
Recovery time for this procedure and injury usually ranges around a month. With five weeks until the season opener, it’s possible the Browns will have Mingo back for the game, which is against the New York Jets.
The sixth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft has not quite lived up to his hype quite yet. In 30 career games, he’s only started 15 and his stats haven’t been eye-popping either. In two seasons he’s compiled seven sacks and 55 tackles.
Mingo had a bruised lung and missed a game in his rookie season, and in 2014 played almost the entire season with a torn labrum in his shoulder that forced him to wear a harness that prevented him from lifting his arm, most likely limiting his abilities on the field. He had postseason surgery to repair the shoulder, and spent the spring and summer limited in practices wearing a red jersey.
Mingo hasn’t been the brightest spot on the Browns defense recently but he’s still young so there is still time for him to show his worth. Mingo isn’t expected to miss anytime and hopefully he can play his full third season in the NFL.
