The Brooklyn Nets have spent the past month or so feeling every possible candidate out for their GM position and rightly so. If they get this wrong they’ll be the joke of the NBA for a generation or two.
They took a massive risk ditching their long-term future for short-term success but failed terribly and kind of laughably if I do say so myself.
Now they’re assured to be trash for the next few years so they need a GM that has a plan. The hunt officially begins on Monday as they hold their interviews.
Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov will be in attendance, as will the other members of the team’s GM search committee: Nets chairman of the board of directors Dmitry Razumov, trusted Russian basketball confidant Sergey Kushchenko, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment Brett Yormark and president of ONEXIM Sports & Entertainment Irina Pavlova.
As ESPN.com first reported Jan. 13, two-time executive of the year Bryan Colangelo, who has a wealth of experience at the top of an organization, is a strong candidate for the position.
Former Atlanta Hawks GM Danny Ferry, Denver Nuggets assistant GM Arturas Karnisovas and Houston Rockets executive vice president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas are also expected to receive interviews. The Nets recently received permission from the Nuggets and Rockets to interview Karnisovas and Rosas.
Nets assistant GM Frank Zanin is expected to interview as well.
I don’t know who will get hired and honestly it doesn’t matter who. As long as they’re 100% sure about the hire and they will actually let him work instead of having a kneejerk reaction about everything. The GM should be there for at least 5 years no questions asked.
