The Brooklyn Nets most consistent offensive performer this season, Brook Lopez, is set to miss the next 2-games for the team with a mild sprain of his left foot. The foot is the same one that kept Lopez out for all but 5-games of the lockout shortened season in 2011-12, there were fears that he had re-aggravated the injury but X-ray’s revealed no further damage to the area. Lopez sustained the injury during the heated clash with Boston on Wednesday, he will miss the Nets game against the Magic tonight, and their game with the Heat on Saturday.
Brooklyn GM Billy King said it was a relief the injury was not more severe.
“When the location of the pain, on top of the foot, was different than where he had it before, [Dr. Williams] suggested we wait, ice, get in here and get X-rayed in Orlando,” King said. “At noon he went with Timmy to see the Orlando doctor, and had an X-ray and the X-ray looks identical to the one before the season started.
“It’s not related to the previous injury and he’ll be out these two games and after that he’ll be day-to-day. It’s almost like a bone bruise, on top of the bone there’s pain, and that’s why we did the X-ray and there’s nothing. There’s not a fracture or anything. … It’s a sprained foot.”
