The Brooklyn Nets’ slow death continues as their stars Brook Lopez and Deron Williams are officially bench players. I find this sad and I’m not even a Nets fan. The fact that their supposed Big 3 of Lopez, Williams and Johnson are separated to two of them being role players. It’s just sad.
But Lionel Hollins is wondering why this is a story according to the NY Daily News.
Lionel Hollins, clearly losing patience with the questions about Brooklyn’s former cornerstones, indicated that his controversial rotation is here to stay.
“Why you keep asking about Deron and Brook? This is the Brooklyn Nets,” the coach said. “Yes, they were starters, they’ve been out and if you note, while they were out we started playing better and winning, so why would I go back and change the lineup now?”
When Lionel Hollins was hired, I applauded it. I think his stint in Memphis was cut short wrongly and he is famed for being no nonsense. And for him this is nonsense.
Personally. I find this very unorthodox. Benching you two best players (supposedly). But they have had injuries. They aren’t the players they were. And that’s a damn shame. But if Deron Williams can deal with it.
“It is what it is,” Williams said. “If they’re playing great and my role is smaller than what I’m accustomed to, that’s fine with me.”
Then I’m fine with it. And they’re on the trading block.
If they aren’t on different teams by the deadline. Then Brooklyn are screwed. They have 0 cap room. They need to unload these stupidly large contracts. And the only way everybody can be happy. Is if Brooklyn win games.
