The charmingly awkward heroine is back in the first trailer for Bridget Jones’ Baby with Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth. To the disappointment of many fans, Hugh Grant has decided not to return to the franchise. Fortunately, Mark Darcy (Firth’s character, for those who are unfamiliar) will have a new rival for Bridget’s heart, played by Patrick Dempsey (The Playlist):
“Zellweger’s iconic character Jones is now a fortysomething single woman, but with a baby on the way. In typical Bridget Jones fashion, she’s not sure who the father is. It could be Colin Firth’s Mark Darcy, who she has an awkward encounter with in the teaser, or her new love interest, Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey)” (Variety).
Check out the first trailer below. Bridget Jones’ Baby is directed by Sharon Maguire and written by Helen Fielding, David Nicholls, and Emma Thompson. Starring alongside Firth and Zellweger are Patrick Dempsey, Jim Broadbent, Sally Phillips, Jessica Hynes, and James Callis. The movie will be released on September 16th.
