The Miami Heat are facing a predicament. Hassan Whiteside is a free agent after this season ends, and because he’s such a beast he will get max. Which is something the Heat can’t afford, they barely escaped last offseason with Dwyane Wade, Lord knows how they’ll do this offseason.
Brian Windhorst, perennial LeBron James follower, was recently on Zach Lowe’s “The Lowe Post” Podcast (See what he did there?) and while they were talking about the upcoming trade deadline, the Heat came up and Windhorst spoke the hard truth about Whiteside and his future.
“This is a guy who is going to get a max contract in the summer. And he’s absolutely not a Heat player,” said Windhorst on Zach Lowe’s podcast. “His style of play, his personality, the way he goes about his business is not congruent with the way the Heat normally go about themselves.
“The Heat have a decision to make: do you ride out the season with Whiteside or do you package him with (Luol) Deng before the deadline.“
I think the first part when he was talking about Hassan not being a Heat player. Who cares? We aren’t talking about the San Antonio Spurs here, the “not a Heat Player” spew is nothing, that’s not the point. The point is that the Heat found a gem and now he’s so boss another team will enjoy Hassan Whiteside’s prime years. The Heat have made so much progress with Hassan and his numbers get better every time. Sure he isn’t top notch when it comes to maturity but that’ll come. Well it won’t come in a Heat uniform because it’s nearly impossible to see Hassan Whiteside in a Heat uniform past this season.
