After a miserable performance from both Manziel and Hoyer in their pre-season matchup against the Redskins, Browns Head Coach Mike Pettine decided to go with the more experienced QB in Brian Hoyer.
Pettine stated,
“He was the clear leader from the beginning. We’ve maintained all along that if it was close, I would prefer to go with the more experienced player.”
Neither player looked particularily ready to take on the job of starting NFL Quarterback however. Hoyer only went 2 of 6 with 16 yards. Meanwhile, Manziel went 7 of 16, with 65 yards, a touchdown, and a middle finger to Washington’s bench.
The ugly QB battle in Cleveland is now over…for the time being.
