The San Francisco 49ers are set to sign former Chicago Bears quarterback Brian Hoyer to a 2-year deal, according to NFL insider Albert Breer.

Hoyer has racked up quite the resume as he has already played on 7 different rosters in his 8 seasons as an NFL QB. The undrafted Ohio man spent last season with the Chicago Bears and started 5 games. More importantly, he spent his 2014 in Cleveland with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who he will be reunited with in San Francisco. In the 13 games Hoyer started, he threw for 3,326 passing yards along with 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. For a 49ers team who are looking to rebuild, Hoyer doesn’t look like the guy that will finish that job. However, Shanahan did lead the Falcons to a Super bowl, along with having the NFL MVP which tells us that he does know what he is doing with his offenses.
The deal is only 2 years, and the 49ers could be utilizing Hoyer as a trial QB. Only time will tell during the pre-season. San Francisco still has a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball in order for Hoyer to succeed.
