The Milwaukee Brewers have agreed to a trade that sends outfielder Trent Grisham and pitcher Zach Davies to the San Diego Padres in exchange for infielder Luis Urías and pitcher Eric Lauer. This trade comes just a day before the holiday, and obviously was something the two teams had been working on and were finally able to get finalized. After some confusion from analysts like Jeff Passan and Ken Rosenthal it was determined that it was Zach Davies who was traded rather than Kyle Davies who was first reported to have been dealt.
Gah! Shortstop Luis Urías and LHP Eric Lauer to Milwaukee, OF Trent Grisham and RHP Zach Davies to San Diego.
Zach Davies. Zach Davies. Zach Davies.

For those who do not remember, the former Brewers outfielder, Grisham, made the fatal error that caused the demise of their 2019 season in the National League Wildcard game. Grisham, who hit .231/.328/.410 with 6 home runs and 24 RBI in 156 at-bats in 2019, will get a change of scenery. The Padres are getting a left-handed hitter who has some pop in his bat and should be able to add to the Padres lineup from the left side of the plate.
Davies who was thrown in as well, started 31 games for the Brewers, accumulating a 10-7 record with a 3.55 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 102 punchouts over 159.1 innings pitched in 2019. The right-handed starter is twenty-six years old and joins a crop of pitchers that the Padres have traded for, signed, or are returning from injuries.
On the contrary, Urías played in 71 games with the Padres in 2019 as a middle infielder who will join the Brewers. Urías managed a .223/.329/.326 slash with 4 home runs and 24 RBI’s. The belief is that Urías will hold down the middle infield with Brewers Keston Hiura. Lauer was sent to the Brewers. The left-handed starter pitched in 30 games in 2019 with an 8-10 record, 4.45 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 138 punchouts over 149.2 innings pitched.
After completing the trade, the Padres went on to bring in another starter in the form of Drew Pomeranz. The details of his contract have not been released yet, but after an incredible second half of the season, he will join the Padres.
