BREAKING: Goran Dragic Won’t Re-Sign With Phoenix; Lakers, Heat, Knicks Preferred Destinations
It looks like Goran Dragic is fully ready to move on.
“The Dragon” has done his fair share of talking about his upcoming free agency this summer, and even though the Suns would be fully prepared and inclined to re-sign Dragic, Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports reports that Dragic has no intention of staying in Phoenix:
According to two people with knowledge of the situation, the representatives for the Suns point guard told team officials in a Tuesday meeting that he has no plans to re-sign in Phoenix this summer as a free agent.
The main issue, according to one of the people, is that Dragic wants to run his own team with the kind of freedom and support given to someone like Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. The decrease in production this season, as he sees it, is directly tied to the decrease in time spent as the lead-guard with the host of ballhandlers that surround him.
After being the league’s Most Improved Player last season, Dragic’s production has dropped as well as his usage rate. Phoenix brought in a third rotation point guard in Isaiah Thomas in the offseason, who the Suns said today they’d be willing to trade just to hold onto Dragic, but now things have shaken up.
With Dragic now confirming that he won’t re-sign, it’s now on the Suns management to weigh their best options. As a free agent the team he goes to he’ll also be looking to re-sign with this summer.
