Breaking Bad fans rejoice! That mysterious Breaking Bad movie has apparently already completed filming. The project has long been rumored but nothing official had been announced outside of the return of Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman.
However, Bob Odenkirk recently revealed that the film’s actually already completed filming. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Odenkirk was promoting season five of the Breaking Bad spin-off, Better Call Saul, when he dropped the bombshell news on fans.
“I don’t know what people know and don’t know,” the actor said. “I find it hard to believe you don’t know it was shot. They did it. You know what I mean? How is that a secret? But it is. They’ve done an amazing job of keeping it a secret.”
Obviously, Odenkirk doesn’t offer any specifics on the film’s plot or cast. Unfortunately, the way he talks about it points to his character not making an appearance. Though, fans of the series likely just want to know if Bryan Cranston is returning to reprise his iconic role from the series. Cranston has stated multiple times since the series’ 2013 finale that he’d like to return to the role. But, other than a report from earlier this year claiming his involvement, nothing official has been announced either way.
The Breaking Bad movie is just a part of AMC’s recent push towards feature films. Last year, The Walking Dead stalwart Andrew Lincoln left the show but is set to return in a couple of Rick Grimes-centric films over the next few years. Interestingly, AMC also pushed hard to get his feature debut on the big screen, rather than just debuting it on TV and Netflix. So, considering the popularity of Breaking Bad, there’s probably a decent chance we’ll see it on the big screen as well.
Regardless, the untitled Breaking Bad movie began filming in March and is expected to release in 2020.
