Ok, so this is really, really happening. Earlier we heard that Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is developing a movie within the Bad universe and it’s filming this month. Now we’re hearing that the story may be following Jessie Pinkman, the beloved character played by Aaron Paul in the original series. I can’t believe I didn’t realize this earlier. The movie’s description was:
track the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.
(Spoiler Alert) At the end of the show, we see Jesse Pinkman race off in his car after Walter just saved his life. The show pretty much ends on that note and while a lot of Need for Speed jokes have been made about that (Pinkman later played the main character in a racing movie), it might be hinted at something else. Someone trying to escape.
Could the movie tail off from where the series ended and we see a distraught Jesse Pinkman on-the-run trying to figure out what his next move is. Fans of the show will remember him as the more paranoid and doubtful character in the duo that was Jesse & Walter.
Plus this would follow suit to what AMC is doing with Andrew Lincoln and the Walking Dead franchise. Shortly after Lincoln announces his exit as the leader of the ‘Walking Dead’ Rick Grimes, AMC planned for 3 movies based around the character with him attached. It would make sense they do the same thing with their most beloved franchise the growing ‘Breaking Bad’ universe. With the original show and ‘Better Call Saul’ become sensations in the TV-sphere, trying to break into the movie business might not be a bad idea.
