Superman fans rejoice! DC fans, in general, will probably be cheering too, honestly. That’s because, according to Deadline, The CW’s Arrowverse will be adapting the iconic ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ storyline. Not only that, but both Brandon Routh and Tyler Hoechlin will be appearing as their respective versions of Superman. Routh played the big blue boy scout in 2006’s Superman Returns while Hoechlin has handled Superman duties on The CW’s Supergirl. DC is expected to make the announcement at Comic-Con.
With Arrow ending this year, its obvious that DC and The CW want to send their flagship hero out with a bang. The original 12-issue ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’ comic story functioned as a reset button of sorts for the DC canon. Hundreds of writers had put their spin on characters across the DC Multiverse and things had become pretty messy so the publisher used the event to right the ship, so to speak.
Obviously, the Arrowverse is nowhere that level of convoluted yet though so, the event won’t be a straight-up adaptation of the comic storyline. It will be similarly epic though as all five main DC series on The CW – Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman – will be brought together in a five-episode arc. The first three parts of the event will premiere in December of this year, followed by the final two parts in January of 2020.
Fans of DC’s Arrowverse may be curious how Routh’s Superman will appear since he already portrays Ray Palmer/The Atom on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. But, fear not, because Routh will appear as both characters during the event, likely leading to some fun dialogue from the other heroes.
