According to a report from Deadline, Bradley Cooper is eyeing a role in Fox Searchlight’s Nightmare Alley. Cooper has reportedly taken a meeting with the team behind the film and has already began negotiating a deal.
Cooper is the second major star to align himself with the film. Previously, Leonardo DiCaprio was thought to be the leading candidate for the film’s lead role. Unfortunately, talks fell through and the Academy Award winner never ended up in the film.
Guillermo del Toro will direct the film and co-write the script with Kim Morgan. del Toro will produce and finance the film alongside TSG Enetertainment.
Nightmare Alley is based on the same premise as the 1947 film of the same name. Deadline reports the film will tell the story of a “corrupt con-man who teams up with a female psychiatrist to trick people into giving them money.”
Cooper is coming off a string of hit performances over the last eight months. The Academy Award winner has appeared in Avengers: Infinity War, The Mule, Avengers: Endgame and the upcoming film, Joker. Most notably, Cooper appeared in A Star Is Born, which earned eight Academy Award nominations this year.
