If you look back to about a month ago, you may remember Bradley Beal wanting a max contract extension and the Wizards simply going “mmm no”. And I agree, Beal isn’t worth max. And the fact that everyone wants max is just lowering the importance of the word ‘max’. It’s the reason why the cap space is going up next year. But for the Wizards, they need as much cap as they can get so they can go for Kevin Durant next year. So Bradley Beal should stop screwing around in my opinion.
But what’s good about this situation is that the respective parties are still talking.
Both sides have maintained dialogue throughout the summer but there’s no rush and substantial progress hasn’t been made, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation.
The Wizards should stand firm until they know that they have a strategy that’ll give KD max. Because I’d much rather give KD max and lose Beal than give Beal max and have 0 chance to get Durant. It’s the last piece of the Wizards’ puzzle. And I speak for the Wizards when I say. Bradley Beal wanting money won’t get in the way of the Wizards getting a chance at a chip.
