The Washington Wizards have had plenty of struggles on the injury front this season. On Saturday, they received some more bad, related news. The team announced that starting shooting guard Bradley Beal will be out at least two weeks with the “beginnings of a stress reaction in his lower right fibula.”
Beal, who has had multiple injuries in his short NBA career and has struggled to stay healthy for long stretches, will be held out of action for two weeks before being reevaluated. Fortunately, the injury is a stress reaction and not a stress fracture which is a much more serious injury that would have derailed Beal’s whole season. Nevertheless, with Beal’s injury history, the team would be wise to be very cautious in his rehab and not rush him back.
Beal has continued to improve every season and has become one of the Wizards’ most crucial pieces. With the team struggling to consistently put together victories, Beal’s injury will be a big blow. Washington will look for contributions from the likes of Garrett Temple and Gary Neal as they attempt to make do without Beal.
