The Washington Wizards have literally jumped in a time machine back to the late 2000’s where they were so irrelevant they needed John Wall to lift them out of mediocrity. They are now out of said mediocrity. They have a standard to bear. And since the All-Star break, that standard is long gone. Wall has been dealing with fatigue, Beal is injured. Otto Porter is on Shaqtin more than the actual game highlights. It’s a mess. And right, smack bang in the middle of it all is Washington head coach Randy Wittman.
Now it’s not all his fault. But he is not training the players. Otto Porter’s development has been severely average. And him, Wall and Beal was supposed to be the future of the Wiz. Paul Pierce can’t be there forever.
Wittman is frustrated. And it’s clear. Because if anybody is going. It’s going to be Wittman. Bradley Beal talked to the Washington Post about Wittman’s frustrations.
“We didn’t see him walk off, but he was furious after the game last night, man,” Beal said. “He said words that I can’t even think about it in my head, or think about saying [anymore]. But this is a stepping stone for us. We’re still growing, we’re still learning. We’ve been on this roller-coaster for the last month or two. We just gotta snap out of it. We were definitely disappointed with the loss last night. We definitely should’ve won the game. We kind of just gave it to them, but I think we’ll figure it out. I know Witt was furious. Everybody was frustrated last night, but we watched film today and I think we’re on the mend now. We’re going to regroup and do whatever it takes to start winning.”
This was all after the stupid loss to Indiana where George Hill did the greatest Moses impression and magically parted the Wizards like the Red Sea. It was inexcusable. It was straight after a game tying three from Wall! They could’ve locked down for a few seconds and go for overtime. But they let Hill in and they took the L.
Washington needs to go back to the Wizards from last year. That nearly took the Playoffs by the throat. What happened to that team? They’re in trouble now. Wittman is certainly in trouble.
