Brad Stevens Says “It’s A Possibility” Rajon Rondo Returns For Season Opener
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo expressed his optimism about not missing any games this season, even after being ruled out at least six to eight weeks when he slipped in the shower and broke his left hand. Celtics head coach Brad Stevens is now hopeful that his star point guard might be available as soon as opening night, per Jay King of MassLive.com:
I think it’s a possibility. He won’t do any contact before the end of the week, but there’s a chance he could be cleared to do some stuff by the end of the week.
From Rondo:
It’s still pretty early for it to be healed all the way, obviously. It’s been three weeks and some change. So, still got a couple more days to go.
The CT scan on Rondo’s left hand reportedly shows it’s “progressing great”. The 28-year-old talked about his status with the injury,
It doesn’t bother me at all. When I dribble the ball, when I catch the ball, it doesn’t bother me. But it’s night and day from trying to brace myself hitting the floor, and going into the lane and somebody smacking my hand.
Boston opens the 2014-15 season against the Brooklyn Nets next Wednesday night. The Celtics would need the entirety of Rondo’s services in order to compete as a true sleeper in the conference. Rondo is still their best player, playmaker, and centerpiece, despite the slew of guards Brad Stevens has on his roster. Any chance of rising above mediocrity rests on Rondo’s recovery.
Hopefully come opening night we can enjoy Rondo’s injury return along with the likes of Kobe Bryant and Derrick Rose.
