‘Thor: The Dark World’ is still the reining champion this weekend after a 55% drop at the box office by pulling in an estimated $38.5 million. This brings its total to $147 million. The film is already set up to pass the $181 million brought in by its predecessor ‘Thor’, and will pass the $200 million mark in the coming weeks.
‘The Best Man’s Holiday’ still brought the thunder. The film brought a surprising $30.6 million over the box office weekend. The film follows the 1999 movie ‘The Best Man’ which brought in $34 million total. The sequel had a small $17 million budget so Universal probably wont wait another 14 years to release another.
‘Last Vegas’ came in third by pulling in another $8.85 million which brings its total to $47 million. Older audiences are turning the film into a sleeper hit. The movie is already set to be CBS Film’s highest grossing film ever.
In fourth and fifth place is ‘Free Birds’ and ‘Jackasss Presents: Bad Grandpa’ which pulled in $8.3 million and $7.7 million respectively.
‘Gravity’ passed the $500 million mark in worldwide sales this week. In the US, the film finished just outside of the top five with $6.3 million.
It will be no surprise to see ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ on top of next weeks box office. The film is expected to break box office records.
