There wasn’t much of a brawl this weekend with virtually no competition to keep ‘The Wolverine’ from taking the top spot. The film took in $55 million over the weekend. That figure is much lower than the $80 million that it was projected to bring in. This is Fox’s second lowest opening for a Marvel film only behind the original X-Men film which brought in $54.5 million. The first film did not have the extra surcharge 3D tickets bring in however.
‘The Conjuring’ is holding steady at the box office in 2nd place bringing in $22 million. This brings its 10 day total to $84 million and makes it director James Wan’s highest grossing film to date.
‘Despicable Me 2’ and its minions are holding steady at the box office by bringing in $16 million this past weekend. The film has surpassed the $300 million mark and is officially the second highest grossing movie of the year behind ‘Iron Man 3’.
The battle at the box office will be a little more exciting when ‘Smurfs 2’ and ‘2 Guns’ hits theaters.
