Once all the flood waters receded, ‘Noah’ came out on top.
The movie adaptation of the biblical story earned the number one spot at the box office this weekend by raking in $44 million. The film surpassed studio predictions which estimated the film would only bring in around $30 million. Internationally, ‘Noah’ has already brought in $95 million overseas. This brings its worldwide total to $139 million and already has earned back its budget of $125 million.
In the runner up position is the young adult action flick ‘Divergent’ which pulled in $26.5 million in its second week of release.
‘Muppets Most Wanted’ brings home the bronze with a showing of $11.4 million.
Just below the Muppets is the animated duo ‘Mr Peabody & Sherman’ which generated $9.5 million and brings its domestic total to $94.9 million.
Meanwhile, Arnold Schwarzenegger’ s latest film has been ‘Sabotage‘ d. (See what I did there?) The action film and Schwarzenegger’s hope of reviving his film career pulled in a dismal $5.3 million. This is the actor’s worst film opening in three decades.
Don’t expect ‘Noah’ to stay afloat at the top for much longer as the superhero juggernaut ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ hits theaters this week.
