In honor of St. Patricks Day, ‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ flash some green money as they take the top spot at the box office.
The Dreamworks animated film raked in $21.2 million over the weekend bringing its domestic total to $63.2 million. The movie is a revival of the popular 1950 and 1960’s animated cartoon from ‘The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show’.
The brutally violent Spartan army of ‘300: Rise of an Empire’ was no match for ‘Mr. Peabody’ as they slipped to the runner up position this week by earning $19.1 million. The film which was last weeks top earner, has now earned a respectable $78 million in two weeks of release.
Aaron Paul and his ‘Need for Speed’ couldn’t keep up with its competition and debuts in third place by pulling in $17.8 million. Early box office estimates had the high octane film in first place as the movie had a strong Friday opening of $6.6 million.
‘Non-Stop’ is still cruisin’ in the clouds as the film holds in fourth place with $10.6 million in its third week in theaters.
Rounding out the top five is the latest release from Tyler Perry’s studios. ‘The Single Mom’s Club’ pulled in $8.3 million despite having an A- rating from fans on CinemaScore.
With the highly anticipated film ‘Divergent’ hitting theaters Thursday night, don’t expect any of the other films to have much luck.
