‘Robocop’ couldn’t keep up with animated toys as ‘The LEGO Movie’ took a second week atop the box office this week.
‘The LEGO Movie’ pulled in an impressive second week $48.8 million. This is the second biggest Valentine’s Day weekend ever behind the movie ‘Valentine’s Day’ which pulled in $63.1 million back in 2010. The film now has a domestic total of an astounding $129.1 million. The movie is crossing over to all demographics which could make it unstoppable in the coming months.
Kevin Hart is still pulling in the big bucks as his second movie this year ‘About Last Night’ debuted in the second place position with $27 million.
The reboot of the 1986 classic ‘Robocop’ opened in third. The $100 million sci-fi action flick pulled in $21.5 million for the three day weekend and a total of $30 million for its six-day opening since the film opened Tuesday night.
‘The Monuments Men’ dropped to fourth place but still had a solid weekend as it earned $18 million. The film was right on par with studio projections for this week.
Rounding out the top five is another 1980s remake ‘Endless Love’. The romantic drama pulled in $13.4 million.
Next week ‘Pompeii’ hopes to melt ‘LEGO’ as it erupts into theaters Thursday night.
