‘The LEGO Movie’ is proving to be unstoppable as the film crushes new competition for a third week.
The film pulled in another big $31.5 million and nearly doubles its newest box office haul. The movie brings its domestic total to $183 million. ‘LEGO’ is already the highest grossing movie of 2014 and is becoming a franchise as a sequel has already been announced for 2017. The movie is having an incredible run that is due to virtually no competition and excellent word of mouth.
Kevin Costner’s action packed flick ‘3 Days to Kill’ wound up in second place pulling in $12.2 million. The film preformed on track with studio predictions and will most likely turn a profit as the film only cost $28 million to make.
‘Pompeii’ is burnt out as the historical drama only pulled in $10.3 million. It has been bashed by critics and currently holds a 27% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film has an estimated budget of $100 million so its opening is considered dismal to say the least.
‘Robocop’ is still faring at the box office by dropping to fourth and raking in $9.4 million.
Another film that was released three weeks ago but isn’t doing as well is ‘The Monuments Men’. The comedy earned $8.1 million and brings its total to $50 million.
Will ‘The LEGO Movie’ be able to take down another box office vet as Liam Neeson’s ‘Non-Stop’ lands into theaters this week.
