‘Despicable Me 2’ came out on top for a second week in a row, earning an estimated $44.8 million. This brings its current total up to $229 million domestically.
The silver medal this week belongs to Adam Sandler’s ‘Grown Ups 2’. The film brought in an estimated $42 million. It opened with a slightly bigger tally than its predecessor ‘Grown Ups’ which opened with $40 million back in 2010.
This weeks big budget box office bomb goes to ‘Pacific Rim’. The film sunk, taking in only $38.3 million. The monsters vs. robot flick fared better overseas, generating $53 million in 38 countries.
Next week ‘Despicable Me 2’ will have tough competition when it enters the ring with DreamWorks ‘Turbo’ and the highly anticipated horror film ‘The Conjuring’.
