‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ holds on to the top spot for a second week by bringing in $110 million over the holiday weekend ($74 million of that was over the traditional weekend) bringing its 10-day total to a whopping $294 million. The film has already brought in $573 million worldwide.
‘Catching Fire’ has set a new record for highest Thanksgiving weekend grossing total. The previous holder was ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone‘ which generated $57.5 million/$82.4 million back in 2001. The film is on track to out gross ‘The Hunger Games’ $408 million domestic total.
Another big record breaker this week was Disney’s newest feature ‘Frozen’ which pulled in $93 million over the five day weekend with $66 million of that between Friday-Sunday. The film earned an A+ score from CinemaScore and will easily earn back its $150 million budget.
In third place is ‘Thor: The Dark World’ which brought in $15 million and $11 million over the traditional weekend. The film has now grossed $186 million which just pushes it past its predecessors $181 million domestic total.
‘The Best Man’s Holiday’ is still hanging in there by generating $11.1 million and bringing its total to $64 million. Unsurprisingly, a sequel is already in the works.
The box office should experience little change in the weeks to come as no major releases will hit theaters until mid December.
