The Universal action flick ‘2 Guns’ has won the gunfight at the box office this past weekend. The film starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg took in an estimated $27.4 million. The film blew away execs predictions who thought the film would bring in around $20 million.
‘The Wolverine’ held firm in second place earning $21.7 million bringing its 10-day domestic total to $95 million. The movie is faring much better overseas, earning an estimated $160 million bringing the worldwide total to $255.2 million.
In third place, ‘The Smurfs 2’ opened at a modest $18.2 million and a five day total of $27.8 million. The animated sequel is way off the mark from its predecessor which opened with $35.6 million.
Next week will be a big box office weekend as ‘We’re the Millers’ and ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ hit theaters on Wednesday while Disney’s ‘Planes’ and the futuristic film ‘Elysuim’ open Friday.
