It’s no secret that Boston Celtics’ big man David Lee is available. He’s completely out of the rotation; he hasn’t played a single minute in the last 13 days. There were reports in December that the Celtics had made Lee available, and that seems to be holding true.
From Bleacher Report’s Howard Beck:
Some trade buzz: BOS intends to move David Lee by Feb. 18 deadline, or buy him out. Lee is out of rotation and wants a role somewhere.

With the surplus of big men on Boston’s roster — Amir Johnson, Kelly Olynyk, Jared Sullinger, and Tyler Zeller — it’s no surprise that Lee lost his spot in the rotation. Johnson, Olynyk, and Sullinger have all clearly outplayed Lee this season, and Zeller is much younger than Lee, and on a cheaper contract.
I’m not sure how valuable of a player Lee is at this point, but I’d imagine that some team could use a bit more frontcourt depth. A few candidates that come to mind are Houston, Charlotte, Portland, and Toronto. Whether by trade or signing after he’s bought out, I’m sure Lee will be able to find his way onto an NBA roster this season. It just won’t be on Boston’s.
