Well this is very interesting indeed. A week or so ago I was talking to some Celtics fans that were responding to my post on Dragan Bender being looked at by the Celtics and most of them said to me that they want to trade the 3rd pick.
I get it, you’re already a Playoff team, you don’t have as many needs as the teams around you, might as well just trade the pick and get somebody established. Jimmy Butler? Just a suggestion, you never know, they have mentioned Butler before.
But as it stands now it is looking as if the Boston Celtics are going to trade their 3rd overall pick.
“[I’m] hearing that No. 3 pick overall is the one that they are really shopping,” said CSN’s Celtics Insider A. Sherrod Blakely, “trying to be as aggressive as possible in trying to move that pick, because they want to get a difference-making, impact player right now. And they believe using that No. 3 pick, and maybe some other players and/or picks, might be the best way to [make] that happen.”
“The guys that they want are the guys that everybody wants,” said Blakely. “We’re talking about [Kevin] Durant, we’re talking about Jimmy Butler, those type of players. And those guys are going to be at the top of their wish list until those guys say, ‘We don’t want to come to Boston.’“
Aha! There’s Jimmy Butler’s name again!
We’ve known for the past couple of years that when it comes to this particular pick, the Boston Celtics can’t possibly miss, they either get a great young player or they trade it for that one player that can possibly be the last piece of the puzzle.
