The Washington Commanders have informed defensive back Bobby McCain that he has been released from the roster. With younger talent on the roster and the need to free up cap space, it appears that McCain was the odd man out in the group of defensive backs on the team. The veteran can play both safety and cornerback and should have several teams looking to add his services in free agency. Defensive back is one of the most important positions in the NFL and McCain is a valuable player that can improve a lot of teams for next season.
Commanders are releasing starting slot cornerback/safety Bobby McCain, per source. Commanders have young talent in the secondary, McCain was the odd man out and the team will save $4.42 million agains the cap.

This past season with the Washington Commanders, Bobby McCain recorded 54 solo tackles, 76 total tackles, one forced fumble, and five passes defended. While Washington does save money with the deal, it is more about getting their young and talented defensive backs more snaps heading into next season. McCain should have several teams interested in him for next season. With wide receivers only getting better it is important for teams to have talented players and depth at the defensive back positions. Free agency is quickly approaching and McCain is now in that pool of free agents.
