According to reports from The Hollywood Reporter, NBC Entertainment Chief, Bob Greenblatt, is planning to step down in the near future. Greenblatt is reportedly working with the network giant to finalize his exit strategy despite his recent contract extension. Michael O’Connell of The Hollywood Reporter writes, “It’s unclear when exactly the executive will depart the network, but it will likely be later in the TV season, with any successor installed in time for the upfronts in May.”
NBC officials have declined to comment on the report, but it is believed that recent tragic events may have played a role in this executive’s decision to exit the company. Earlier this year, Greenblatt’s longtime friend, Craig Zadan, passed away suddenly at the age of 69. In response to his friend’s passing, Greenblatt wrote a heartfelt letter in his memory. Greenblatt wrote, “I will treasure forever my 25 years of friendship and making musicals with Craig Zadan.”
Greenblatt is believed to have confirmed his decision to leave before last week’s Primetime Emmy Awards. Greenblatt is set to meet with NBC Universal executive, Steve Burke, later this week. There are no leads on who will take Greenblatt’s place going forward. Stay tuned as more details are revealed.
