Review: ‘Transformers’ has run out of gas.
‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ is jam packed with explosions, fighting robots, cheesy comedy…and not much else which makes it the worst film in the series.
The movie takes place after the battle of Chicago with the government looking to take out all remaining Autobots and Decepticons to save the human race which forcing them to go into hiding. When a broke inventor and his daughter come across a junked up truck, who ends up being Optimus Prime, they get entangled in a plot that puts the entire world in danger. And that’s not even the half of it!
Don’t go to the bathroom otherwise you will be lost for half the movie. The plot is very sloppy with too many side stories going on that it becomes as chaotic as all the action. But hey, whose going to these movies for the plot anyways???
So much is happening on the screen that the entire movie becomes a blur of color and noise and it gets old. Fast. However, when the screen is in focus, the special effects look amazing. You can see every scratch, dent and hole in each of the robots. Kudos.
Mark Wahlberg and his biceps try their best to do what they can with the script, but much of the comedy comes off cringe worthy and borderline cheesy. Many of the jokes fall flat but, when they do land its a chuckle at best.
If you have something better you could be doing, be sure to bring it with you because ‘Age of Extinction’ comes in at a hefty 165 minutes. The film extends way beyond its limit and is dragged out with no payoff. There are dozens of unnecessary scenes that could have easily found their way to the cutting room floor.
Any fan of the franchise is sure to love ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ because it gives you exactly what you expect: Giant fighting alien robots, explosions, and gunfire. However, for everyone else it would be best to let this franchise go the way of the dinosaurs.
Extinct.
