Oh don’t you just love having fun while doing your job. I’m surprised most NBA teams don’t do this, or they do it but don’t admit that they did it just to string it out.
In the space of a few days Allen Crabbe went from being a bench player in Portland, to a starter in Brooklyn and then back to being a bench player in Portland. Crabbe himself wasn’t a fan of the temporary limbo but Blazers GM Neil Olshey assures that it wasn’t to make him sweat.
“> was definitely a stressful free agency, not for the fact that we got the contract but not knowing where I was going to be,” Crabbe said. “I knew how much Portland valued me. But they waited until the third day, the last day.”
“That was to punish the (Nets) not you,” Olshey quickly interjected.
Olshey did build up the drama a little bit, something he’s done before in a situation he referenced Friday with DeAndre Jordan during his time with the Clippers.
“I got the phone call from Neil, he didn’t straight up say we are matching, he built up the story,” Crabbe told reporters. “He told me we were going to match.“
The Blazers honestly shouldn’t have paid that much for a guy that only averaged just over 10PPG but he did improve significantly in that year. He should be on the incline in terms of performance and hopefully he can fulfil the major deal he’s currently on.
