Prosecutors have dropped a misdemeanor case involving Los Angeles Clippers big man Blake Griffin. The complaint involved Griffin and another man who said the 26 year-old forward “slapped him” and “grabbed his cellphone” at a Las Vegas nightclub last October.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said Tuesday that new information obtained since a battery charge was filed in November made it clear that the allegations couldn’t be proved.
This all apparently started when the accuser, Daniel Schuman, and his friends saw Griffin and some of his teammates at the Vegas club and started taking pictures of them. Shuman said that Griffin then threw his phone and slapped him.
Griffin’s lawyer, Richard Schonefield released a statement saying:
“We are pleased with the dismissal and believe that it is the appropriate result.”
Griffin told the Los Angeles Times previously that he was unhappy about this situation and wanted to get it over with.
“I feel more bad just for the fact that it’s a distraction,” Griffin said. “I don’t know how big of a distraction it really is, but it is. That’s what I feel mostly bad about.”
Griffin returned recently to the Clippers lineup after missing 15 games. Now with this behind him, he can focus on basketball and trying to help Los Angeles win their first NBA Title.
