It’s hard to believe, but it’s only been a few months since Black Panther left theaters. In less than a year, the film went from Hollywood blockbuster to one of the biggest films of the last ten years. As it gears up for possible Golden Globe and Oscar nods, the film will receive another honor. Black Panther will receive The Great Family Award at the 2018 Common Sense Awards in San Francisco, California. California native, Ryan Coogler, is expected to be in town to receive the award on behalf of the cast and crew.
Alongside Ryan Coogler, Sal Khan of Khan Academy will be on hand to accept the Educator of the Year Award. In addition, activist, Cameron Kasky, will be on hand to collect an award on behalf of the March For Our Lives movement.
Common Sense CEO, James P Steyer, said, “The Common Sense Awards honor artists, educators, and advocates who use media and technology to inspire and advance new ideas, engage diverse or marginalized communities, and effect positive change for children.” Later, he added, “In today’s divisive culture, this night is an opportunity to celebrate all the good that media can do, shining a spotlight on important issues and inspiring a generation of kids toward a brighter future.”
The award winners will be recognized on Thursday, November 15th at San Francisco’s City Hall.
