Drake’s OVO Sound may have some competition in its home country of Canada. In fact, it’s biggest competition may be the product of OVO Sound alumni, The Weeknd. Since the Canadian Pop star kicked off XO back in 2012, the roster has amassed a strong roster that includes Nav, Belly and 88Glam. The newest edition to the XO team is Montreal’s Black Atlass. The Montreal native models all of the talent, grit and star power that it takes to be a part of the team. Today, the singer and songwriter dropped of his newest project, Pain & Pleasure. The eight track follow-up to his previous work, Haunted Paradise, is both personal and mesmerizing.
Throughout the project, the Montreal singer shines on records like “Something Real”, “Feel” and “Kinda Like It”. He also reveals some of his emotions a track like “Shadows”. In a recent interview, Atlass noted that the song was the most meaningful to him on the project. He added, “I would say “Shadows” because it’s about a really special person to me and a really special experience to me. And ultimately, I wrote it about her. I think that’s the most personal and the most important to me.” In addition to “Shadow”, the project’s intro, “Something Real”, also appears to be a song that could take off.
From top to bottom, the project shows a lot of promise. In the future, he could find himself working directly on music with his boss. When asked about the opportunity to collaborate with other member’s of the label, he said, “Yeah, definitely. That’s my goal, for sure. I’m always keeping that in mind. That’s definitely on my list for sure on things I want to do next.” While we wait for the first collaboration between Black Atlass and The Weeknd, check out his project, Pain & Pleasure.
