The flood gates for biopics are open at this point and that is largely due to the success Ice Cube and company have received from the recent N.W.A. ‘Straight Outta Compton’ movie. While many can consider ‘Notorious’, the B.I.G. biopic as the catalyst, it is ‘Straight Outta Compton’ that took things even further to allow these opportunities for other Hip Hop/Rap stories that need to be told. Going forward we currently await a release date for the ‘All Eyez On Me’ Tupac biopic which is in its post-production stages.
The brothers responsible; Birdman (Baby) and Slim Williams, of bringing forth one of the greatest labels and movements to hip hop, Cash Money Records, look to embark on the biopic wave as well. Recently sitting down with XXL Magazine, the news was announced;
“[Look at the] Straight Outta Compton [movie]. I think that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are geniuses for what they have done and accomplished,” continued Baby. “For them to do that [movie] and to make it trend-setting, they opened doors for us, and I think that what we have is way more special because we’re in modern times.”
A Cash Money movie would be special especially with them having 20+ years in this game no to mention with me being a fan since the Hot Boyz days I will certainly be in support of this biopic. Having a script in works at the time, a script for something they feel deserves one more than anything, listen to the audio from their conversation while at the Brooklyn Law School on Wednesday.
