Fox Searchlight is more than doubling the number of theaters showing “Birdman” to more than 1,000 in the wake of its Oscar for Best Picture.
The dark comedy is directed by Alejandro G. Inarritu, who won the Oscar for Best Director and shared in the Best Picture Oscar as a producer and the Orginal Screenplay Oscar as one of four writers.
The film which stars Michael Keaton, became available on DVD and VOD last week. It was released in October and grossed $877,586 at 407 sites last weekend for a $37.8 million domestic total.
Its biggest weekend was its fifth on Nov. 14-16, when it took in $2.5 million at 857 locations.
“Birdman” has also grossed $39 million internationally.
