Big Sean will be making his acting debut in Lena Waithe’s upcoming series Twenties. Airing on BET in 2020, the news was announced on Thursday. In an exclusive by Variety, the series centers around a group of friends in their twenties, “trying to navigate careers, love and relationships, and life in general.”
In regards to the comedy series, Waite told Variety, “It really is a figment of my imagination. But I’m pulling little things about my drive, my hunger, and the frustrations that come with the business [that can be relatable to anyone].”
Big Sean spoke to Billboard about his acting debut. The rapper also discussed his new album and his future in acting. He stated,
“Music is definitely my first passion. It was just something that I’ve always done on the side. I was doing Shakespeare plays before I was rapping. My mom was an actress at heart, so she always kept me into that [when I was younger]. It is something that I feel I have a natural talent for, so it’s cool — Lena gave me my first chance at an acting debut.”
Sean will play the role of Tristan, a yogi with anti-social media habits. The Twenties cast also includes Jonica “JoJo” T. Gibbs, Christina Elmore, Sophina Brown, and Gabrielle Graham. The BET show is an eight-episode series. Read the rest of Big Sean’s interview here.
