Big Boi has finally confirmed that a joint album between Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest was in the works.
Many have been wondering if the two groups would ever collaborate, but after the death of Phife Dawg, plans derailed. In a recent interview on Hot 97, Big Boi explained the joint project. In the interview, he explained that the project, “A Tribe Called ‘Kast”, was a-go until Phife Dawg’s death last year. Big Boi explained how the two groups were meeting together, “We got to the point of picking out beats for the album. Then, some kind of way, everybody started doing stuff, and then Phife… you know. It definitely was happening, though.”
Andre 3000 first spoke on the project while speaking at Phife Dawg’s funeral, but Big Boi says him and Phife had music together that he plans on releasing. Watch Big Boi’s full interview with Laura Stylez and Peter Rosenberg below.
