President Joe Biden did not mince words in his assessment of Jim Jordan’s bid to become Speaker of the House. During a recent fundraiser in the nation’s capital, the President simply said that Jordan got his “rear end kicked.”
“He just got his rear end kicked,” President Joe Biden said, according to The Hill.
The recent battle to become Speaker of the House began on October 3, 2023 when Rep. Kevin McCarthy was removed from the position by a vote of 216-210. Eight days later, Rep. Steve Scalise earned the Republican Party’s nomination for the position by a vote of 113-99. One day later, Scalise dropped out of the race to become Speaker of the House because he did not feel that he had the support needed to win in a vote on the House floor. As a result, Rep. Jim Jordan was pushed to the forefront and became the Republican Party’s new nominee. However, Jordan failed to win the position in three separate votes and ultimately lost the party’s support.
“We’re back to square one,” South Dakota Rep. Dusty Johnson said after Jordan lost in his third attempt to become Speaker of the House.
Since Friday, a number of Republicans have entered the race, including Reps. Jack Bergman, Kevin Hern and Austin Scott. House Republicans are expected to meet on Monday and select a candidate to fill the position on Tuesday.
