In November of 2020, President Joe Biden made history as the oldest politician to ever be elected President of the United States. At 80 years old, he is looking to make history yet again as he prepares to run for re-election. The former Vice President hasn’t formally launched his campaign for the upcoming presidential election, but he appears to be set on pursuing four more years in the Oval Office.
“[M]y intention is — from– has — intention has been from the beginning to run. But there are too many other things we have to finish in the near term before I start a campaign,” President Joe Biden told David Muir of ABC News last week.
“He says he’s not done,” First Lady Dr. Jill Biden echoed in a separate interview.
Biden is not backing away from his desire to run for re-election. If he is re-elected, he would complete his final days in office at the age of 86, far exceeding the age of any previous President. In a recent interview, he addressed the concerns of voters who feel he is too old to serve as President.
“It’s legitimate for people to raise issues about my age,” President Joe Biden said.
“It’s totally legitimate to do that. And the only thing I can say is, ‘Watch me.’”
A few of President Joe Biden’s potential competitors are not far behind him in the age department. If elected, former President Donald Trump and Marianne Williamson would both be older than any other President in modern history. Trump is currently 76 years old and Williamson is 70 years old.
